Timeless

Review by: Bill

Welcome back guys! Oh wow, this is NO nostalgia album. It took its time, but I am so glad to have listened all the way through this morning. Personally, I'm not as keen on ‘Too Many People (I DO like it, just not as much as the others). Run is a beauty! As is Eyes Wide Open.

What has really struck me, was the "B" sides for the single - Luv Of A Woman - that is a superb piece of work. It is one of those songs that just "gets you" in the heart - it has the lovely melody, some lovely lyrics. It has surpassed my previous favourite from the 10 album (The Only Sounds) for a slower, reflective song. I would love to hear it on tour (not that we have any influence at this stage!) but just to say I LOVE it, as I do the other song "Sail On."

I was actually surprised to see they're not included on the album - they're certainly no cast-outs for me! Thanks for the album, it's super. Off now to listen through again, to see if I can find a favourite.

From the opening track through to the orchestral finale, this album has to be one of my favourite albums of all time. The first time I listened to the CD, I was hooked. Each track is so memorable after hearing it just one or twice you will be singing the songs in your head. There are some sure-fire commercial hits within the silky production, harmonies and arrangements too. Thru' The Night would be a massive hit and surely a certain single release beckons for the early part of 2008 - I am certain this song would see the Wets back in the top 5. Eyes wide open is an orchestral fusion of classic Wet's at their very best, as Marti's vocals entwine with a back drop of musical heaven. All the tracks on this album are absolutely superb. I would challenge anyone to point out a weak track from here.

Well done Marti, Graeme, Tommy & Neil. Superb job!

On the first listen I wasn't sure about it (if I'm honest) but after giving the album a couple of listens, I'm becoming more and more impressed. A bit different than previous albums, but the 'new' direction definitely suits them. You can really hear the different influences that we have all heard about in interviews, etc over the years that maybe haven't been apparent in other albums. Run is a great rock-influenced track that was great live showing GD's guitar skills off perfectly. Thru the Night and Weightless show Marti's vocal talents at their best. Too Many People album version is much better than the single version but that's just my opinion. Will be a great crowd pleaser on tour. What Do You Know (my personal fave) is a great upbeat song which will again be a crowd pleaser on tour.

It's been a long time coming but at long last we have the new Wets album and it has definitely been worth the wait! The album is filled with some wonderful songs and there is an array of musical influences. I personally can hear influences from The Beatles, The Carpenters, Roy Orbison and Kirsty MacColl. Highlights for me include the explosive Run at the start of the album, with awesome guitar and drums! This sounds so good live as well. A beautiful song - Heaven (which I get lost in every time I hear it) and What Do You Know, with fantastic lyrics. Marti's vocal talent gets stronger all the time and he has great versatility in his voice. The Wets have travelled a long way in the last twenty years and I hope they will still be releasing albums and touring in another twenty years. Thanks guys, you're the best!
